ロサンゼルスへ旅行に行ってきました。ニューヨークでは厚手のコート着てても冷え込むのに、あっちでは半袖で平気だったから何か不思議。サンタモニカの砂浜（写真）ではマッチョなハンサムが上半身裸でジョギングしてたり、ビバリーヒルズでは超豪邸から高級車が乗り出してきたりとなかなかロスらしい風景を堪能できました。

迎春

明けましておめでとうございます。長いこと更新が途絶えてごめんなさい。今年の冬はレシピ本を買ってきていろいろ料理に挑戦しています。といっても買った本が『Soup Bible』だったので、これまでに試したメニューは「カボチャスープ」、「焼きピーマンスープ」、「鶏だしトマトスープ」などなどスープばかり。そのうちにもう少し固形のメニューも作れるようになりたい。彼女は『All About Chocolate』という本を買ってきて手製チョコマフィンを作ってくれました。出来上がりはマフィンというよりクッキー（ベーキングパウダーが少なかった？）だったけど、味は大変良かった。シェフは「これから毎週作る！」と息巻いているので僕の８０kg台ももう遠くないかもしれない。

Coles Gym

Went to Gym yesterday after 3 months of blank during which my protruding stomach is pinched by J every time I try to eat chips. When finished 3 miles of run, I had to strongly manage myself from falling down or even puking. It's very depressing when you realize how wimpy you are. (sigh)

So, I got a new MP3 player

This Samsung U5, $40.

It cannot hold my whole media files, cannot watch videos, cannot take photos or cannot play games. But who cares? It can play music, can connect to PC without cable, can move files without iTune, and can fit on my finger. This simplicity is more than enough for me.

Washington DC

Went to DC last weekend. The main object of this travel was to go to the library of congress only where we can find a series of books containing data Jen needs for her research. Spending whole one day, we photocopied more than two thousand pages of the books. While it was an exhausting job to do, will be worth if they help her work.

ワシントンからニューヨークに戻る折、ボールトバス（Bolt Bus）なる長距離バスを初めて利用した。片道24ドルの格安にもかかわらず、座席は十分に広いし、ACコンセント&無料WiFiまで備わっていて正直言うことなし。…のはずが、下車する際に長年愛用していたMP3プレーヤーを座席に忘れて紛失してしまった。もうこれ大後悔の嵐。「ほれみろ」という声が今にも聞こえてくるが悔恨の思いつのるばかりなので、どうかコメント欄には書かないでほしい。

New PC

Got a new computer. This time, I build up a pc on my own from various parts including Intel Core 2 Quad, 4GB RAM, GeForce9800 GTX, and 1TB HDD. Spending a mountain of money, I still don't know why i need this spec for my just text-editing office computer. But you never know, the speed of my text cursor blinking can be now amazingly fast. What a stupidity.

コンピュータを組み上げてOSをインストールしてるときにHDDが故障していることを発見。結局壊れたドライブはカリフォルニアに返送して、地元の電気屋まで新しい部品を買いに行くはめとなった。PC自作って、組み上げるのに手間かかる分、出来上がったPCには愛着わくけど、今にも目の前の箱が煙を吹き出すんじゃないかと心配でならない。
